Health and Safety Premises Management CPD

St John the Baptist Catholic MAT is holding two events for Heads, Site Managers or Finance Staff, Governors and Directors, to provide a basic grounding in managing Health and Safety on our school sites (Premises Management). Helen Bates (Assistant Diocesan Director Buildings & Capital, Roman Catholic Diocese of East Anglia) will attend to provide input.



  • Wednesday 4 March at Notre Dame High School, Norwich, 10am-4pm

  • Wednesday 1 April at St Martha's Catholic Primary School, Kings Lynn, 10am-4pm.


This is a bespoke version of the Norfolk County Council (NCC) Premises Management H&S CPD for Headteachers. We are extending the invitation to other relevant Site Staff, Governors, Finance Staff, Directors and the Diocese, and please do consider who would benefit from attending, including aspirant leaders who want to understand how H&S operates in schools.

The training will include brief information on the key aspects of H&S relevant to school premises, such as:

  • Fire Risk Assessment

  • Compliance

  • General Risk Assessment

  • Asbestos

  • Legionella

  • Trees

  • Model Policy

  • HSE regulations

  • The Diocesan Role

  • Using the website to support H&S.

For several of these topics it will be a simple process of referring to how the MAT supports schools already. Mark Richards, SJBCMAT Site Manager, will provide information as to how the central Site Team supports H&S. Helen Bates will explain and discuss the Diocesan role in maintenance and support of our buildings.


We are tailoring the events to fit with the slightly different needs of the Eastern and Western schools, but all are welcome at either event as the vast majority of content will be the same.
